The Rolling Stones Hit The BFI London Film Festival Red Carpet

LONDON ­ – The Rolling Stones rolled up the red carpet amidst scenes of fan hysteria Thursday night in the British capital for the world premiere of Brett Morgan‘s documentary Crossfire Hurricane during this year’s BFI London Film Festival.

Band members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts were preceded on the red carpet by Oscar winner Colin Firth, Jagger ex-wife Jerry Hall and former member Bill Wyman.

The absent Mick Taylor would get a shout out later by Jagger for his contribution from the auditorium.

The Brett Morgen-directed movie includes historical footage and extensive contributions from Jagger, Richards, Watts, Wood and former Stones member Wyman.

Wyman, on hand for the glitzy shindig, said on the red carpet he’d been involved in a lot of things recently with the Stones “because a lot it is historical stuff and I’ve got a good memory.”

The film was introduced by BFI London Film Festival director Clare Stewart who brought director Morgen to the stage. Morgen revealed he’d pulled together the hours of footage of 50 years of the band in just four months.

Band members Jagger, Richards, Wood, Watt and Wyman then took to the stage alongside producer Victoria Pearman.

Jagger did all the talking thanking myriad people for bringing the doc to the screen. He marvelled at the work that had gone into assembling the archival footage from “a big warehouse we have in North London.”

Jagger then issued a word of warning to “any young people in the audience.”

Said Jagger: “You’re going to see some ridiculous fashions in this film and you will wear some ridiculous fashions yourself when you look back.”

He said he hoped everyone enjoyed the doc which, according to the man himself, promises “sex, drugs and rock n roll then sex and drugs.”

Select guests were then whisked off to an aftershow party at swanky Mayfair haunt Quaglino’s, courtesy of the film’s UK distributor Eagle Rock Entertainment and gala sponsor American Express.

The movie will receive a theatrical release in U.K. cinemas in October prior to a broadcast on BBC2, while HBO will screen it in the U.S.

Earlier this week the band caused a media maelstrom by announcing two London gigs in November and two concerts at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey in December.

Rumors are swirling that the “plus special guests” for the concerts mean Wyman and Taylor will take to the stage with their former band members during the shows.

The tour dates will be the first time in more than five years that Jagger, Richards, Watts and Wood have played a concert together.
