The Vancouver Film Critics Circle on Monday named Alfonso Cuaroon’s Roma best picture and best foreign-language film of 2018.
First Reformed led the group’s international awards with three wins, including for best director and screenplay for Paul Schrader. Ethan Hawke was also tapped as best actor, male, for his role in the drama, while Richard E. Grant was named best supporting actor for his turn in Can You Ever Forgive Me?
The Canadian critics had a more difficult time deciding the best actor, female category, and arrived at a three-way tie between Melissa McCarthy for Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Olivia Colman for The Favourite and Regina Hall for Support the Girls.
Rachel Weisz won best supporting actor, female, honors for her role in The Favourite, while Minding the Gap was named best documentary.
