A Polish court has set a date for Roman Polanski‘s next extradition hearing.
The 82-year-old Oscar-winning director is due to appear before a judge September 22 after U.S. legal documents requested by the court last May finally arrived after the extension of a deadline for receipt of the paperwork.
U.S. authorities are seeking Polanski’s extradition over a 1977 child sex conviction. Polanski pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl at a champagne and drug fuelled photo shoot in Los Angeles.
Under a plea bargain deal he served 42 days of a 90 day sentence but fled the U.S. after details leaked to the press, fearing the judge would go back on the deal.
Under Polish law, if the court agrees the extradition request, Polanski’s case will be handed to the country’s justice ministry for a final decision.
