Getty ImagesTAMPA, Fla. — Indie documentary film 2016: Obama’s America just picked up a powerful endorsement: News Corp. media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Murodoch asked for a copy of the movie, which is this year’s No. 1 documentary (excluding nature films) and perhaps the most popular conservative doc of all time. The filmmakers told The Hollywood Reporter they provided Murdoch with a DVD.
He tweeted late Wednesday his support of the film:

The anti-Barack Obama documentary from director Dinesh D’Souza did strong business over the weekend, where it bested all other new films with a $6.3 million haul. It had grossed $10.5 million as of Monday.
The documentary is screening several times near the Republican National Convention with the filmmakers in attendance.

The film is based on D’Souza’s best-selling book, The Roots of Obama’s Rage, and also draws from the president’s own Dreams From My Father. Obama’s America was produced by Oscar winner Gerald Molen (Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park), who defended the film from critics over the weekend.
“All of my movies have been about telling the truth,” Molen said. “We’ve gone out of our way to make a movie that’s fair and truthful. And these numbers tell me that the American people agree with that assessment.”
