Rupert Murdoch found himself a the center of another social media firestorm on Wednesday for a tweet he sent moments after the terrorist siege in a Sydney cafe came to a bloody end.
Murdoch tweeted out his congratulations to the Australian Daily Telegraph, part of his News Corp empire, for scooping all other news outlets on catching the “bloody outcome.” Two people were killed in the hostage incident, including mother-of-three Katrina Dawson and Tori Johnson, the 34-year-old manager of the Lindt Cafe in Sydney.

The gunman, Man Haron Monis, also died after police stormed the cafe and seized the hostages in the early hours of Tuesday morning, local time.
AUST gets wake-call with Sydney terror. Only Daily Telegraph caught the bloody outcome at 2.00 am. Congrats.

The reaction on Twitter was mostly critical, with people calling Murdoch’s tweet insensitive and boastful.
Rupert, have some respect and sense, please… @rupertmurdoch

@rupertmurdoch Not sure gloating about being first to report on a tragedy is a great look or worth a “Congrats”, Rupert.

You should be ashamed of yourself @rupertmurdoch! Your papers misreported this event from the start and your gloating is disgusting.

@rupertmurdoch Very tacky comment Mr Murdoch.
