Is Rupert Murdoch feeling fit to be tied that Fox didn’t distribute Fifty Shades of Grey?
The media mogul tweeted a backhanded compliment over the weekend about the Universal film’s gargantuan box-office gross, claiming that the intake has been buoyed by women of a certain age.

“Amazing b.o. take for 50 Shades,” Murdoch wrote. “Cinemas full of middle aged women’s groups.”
The 21st Century Fox chief couldn’t resist taking one additional swipe at the Dakota Johnson–Jamie Dornan starrer, adding: “But [by] anecdotal evidence, they [are] all disappointed!”
The film adaptation of the EL James erotic novel has set the Valentine’s Day weekend box office on fire, sweeping up $30.2 million Friday. The book trilogy’s rights were secured by Universal and Focus in a heated 2012 bidding war.
