Ron Howard has become a die-hard Twitter fan, keeping his nearly 700,000 followers constantly updated and answering questions. (It has even replaced his fondness for Brick Breaker.)
He discovered Twitter’s potential last year when directing Rush, based on the real-life rivalry between Formula One drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda, played by Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl, respectively. Rush makes its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 8 before opening in theaters later this month.
In this new featurette hosted exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter, Howard explains why he got into tweeting photos from the set of Rush and how Twitter has become a part of his daily routine. The movie was shot in England and Germany.
“It’s turned out to be a great little hobby,” he says in the video. “On the car ride home, I just zone out for 10 or 15 minutes and pick four or five shots.”

Universal will open Rush, which reunites Howard with Frost/Nixon screenwriter Peter Morgan, on Sept. 20 in New York and Los Angeles before expanding nationwide on Sept. 27.
Rush was financed and produced by Guy East and Nigel Sinclair‘s Exclusive Media and Brian Oliver‘s Cross Creek Pictures. British producer Andrew Eaton played a key role in bringing Rush to the big screen, while Working Title Pictures also produced.
