As Rush Limbaugh fights liberal activists who are encouraging advertisers to yank support because he called a college student a “slut,” right-wing bloggers are protecting the radio star’s flank by pointing out hypocrisy and selective outrage.
Exhibit No. 1 on Monday was liberal talk-radio host Mike Malloy, heard mostly on Sirius XM Radio but also on a few terrestrial radio channels, as well. After Malloy mocked Bible-Belt tornado and storm victims, conservatives seized on the remarks and wondered why there weren’t calls for boycotts, a la Limbaugh.
“Their God,” said Malloy, “keeps smashing them into little grease spots on the pavement in Alabama, and Mississippi, and Arkansas, and Georgia, and Oklahoma.”
“You know, the Bible Belt,” said Malloy, “where they ain’t gonna let no goddamned science get in the way. It says in the Bible, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So, according to their way of thinking, God, with his omnipotent thumb, reaches down here and so far tonight has smashed about 20 people into a grease spot on Highway 12, or whatever the hell highway they live next to.”

Although Malloy made the comments on Friday, the remarks went largely unnoticed until they were posted at the Radio Equalizer blog. From there, Glenn Beck picked it up and by Monday the conservative media was using the remarks as evidence of a double standard that allowed liberals to make offensive remarks but not conservatives.
Within five hours of Beck posting the audio, 305 readers had weighed in with comments like: “Anything from the progressive media? Nothing? … Sounds of crickets. Oh, I know… cant piss off the master.”
Another commenter posted a link for sending a message to Sirius XM and wrote: “I’m a subscriber… for now.”
At Human Events, John Hayward wrote: “Hey there, liberal outrage brigadiers! It sure was fun going after Rush Limbaugh for using the word “slut” in reference to the arguments of a professional leftist agitator, even though he never actually called her one. Here’s your new boycott target: liberal radio host Mike Malloy.”
Examiner.com weighed in underneath a headline that reads: “Civility alert: Liberal radio host says tornado victims forsaken by ‘their god.’” And Brent Bozell at FoxNews.com brought up past perceived transgressions from Malloy, such as when he called Michele Bachmann an “evil bitch from hell.”
So far, no advertisers have abandoned Malloy. On Monday, at least a half-dozen sponsors had ditched Limbaugh’s show because the host compared law student Sandra Fluke to a “slut” and a “prostitute” after she told a U.S. Congressional hearing that insurers at Georgetown University should be forced to cover contraception.
