Ruthie Ann Miles was awarded best featured actress in a musical for her performance in The King and I at the Tony Awards on Sunday night.
“This feels like I’m being punked,” she began her acceptance speech, which she read off her cell phone. She also told the audience, “Please recycle.”
Miles’ speech went beyond the acceptable time limit, which sparked the comedic dancing troupe that was presented at the beginning of the show to enter the stage and prompt her to wrap.
The actress beat out Victoria Clark (Gigi), Judy Kuhn (Fun Home), Sydney Lucas (Fun Home) and Emily Skeggs (Fun Home) to win the honor.
Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth co-hosted the 69th annual awards show, which aired live on CBS from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
