In sync with a major trend on the spring 2018 runways (seen at Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Simone Rocha and more), a heavy dose of sparkle showed up on the SAG Awards red carpet in the form of enough glitzy sequin gowns to dress up an episode of ‘80s-era Dynasty.
I, Tonya nominee Allison Janney donned a long-sleeve, strong-shouldered custom Yanina Couture gown embellished with gunmetal paillettes, while Olivia Munn’s strapless Oscar de la Renta gown had a disco vibe with oversize silver sequins. Connie Britton, Halle Berry and Laurie Metcalf went for the bronze: Britton in a wrap style, Berry in a Pamella Roland gown with black mesh overlay and Metcalf in a seriously shiny Sachin & Babi gown with an illusion neckline.
Only Big Little Lies nominee Nicole Kidman could pull off a long-sleeved sequined gown in flat matte brown like a princess. We loved the floral-like twist of sequined fabric on one shoulder that doubled as a corsage on the Armani confection.
In a blue mood were Mandy Moore in a simply chic, sequined cobalt blue Ralph Lauren slip dress and Susan Sarandon, who wore an off-the-shoulder sequin Alberta Ferretti gown, accessorized with oversize cat-eye sunglasses by Moooi x Gentle Monster.
Thirteen-year-old Millie Bobby Brown, best actress nominee for the drama series Stranger Things, put a youthful spin on her sparkle — pairing her bubblegum pink high-low hem Calvin Klein sequin halter dress with white Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers and her hair swept up in two buns tied with girlish velvet ribbons.
