SAG Awards: Guy Pearce on his ‘Mildred Pierce’ Nomination (Video)

Guy Pearce was nominated for a SAG Award for actor in a television movie or miniseries for his work as Monty Beragon in Midred Pierce. The actor, who already won am Emmy in 2011 for best supporting actor in a miniseries for the role, told THR that it feels special to be nominated because this role is special to him.

“It feels very exciting,” he told THR on the carpet before the SAG Awards on Sunday. “The nice thing is I think it feels like one of the nicest things I’ve ever been part of. So it feels justified. I wouldn’t want to me nominated for something that was a bit lame.”

Pearce will also star in the upcoming film, Seeking Justice. He plays a hitman who is hired by another man (Nicolas Cage) after his wife (January Jones) is brutally attacked.

Pearce’s haunting character offers to kill the man who attacked Cage’s character’s wife for free – but of course, that’s not the end of the deal.

“You don’t want to just be the bad guy for the sake of it,” Pearce told THR about the role. “And I think to work opposite Nicolas and January was really fantastic for me and Roger [Donaldson], a fellow Australian, directing it, so it was great fun.”

THR also asked Pearce how he chooses his roles. Over the years, he’s played a wide variety of roles, including a vengeful man with anterograde amnesia (Memento), a drag queen (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) and King Edward VIII (The King’s Speech).

“You just can’t let it go, I think. I think it’s an internal feeling that you can’t really explain but you’re just drawn to it,” he told THR.
