B.J. Novak, who is a writer, co-executive producer and star of The Office, spoke to THR on the red carpet at the SAG Awards about his characters upcoming romantic troubles, and former Office star Steve Carell’s Emmy snub. The NBC comedy was nominated for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series, up against 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Glee and Modern Family.
Regarding his character Ryan Howard, viewers can expect come trouble in his love life with on-again, off-again flame Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling). Novak mentioned a love triangle on the horizon.

“Ryan goes to Florida to work on a special project and gets very homesick. Ryan, I think, gets more and more emotionally pathetic,” he told THR.
“Ryan has a different agenda than everyone else in the office, and he wants to say provocative things, and that can be very obnoxious, but sometimes those things are funny,” he added about his character.
After the 2011 Emmy Awards, co-star Rainn Wilson expressed anger that Steve Carell had not won the Emmy for his role on the show. Carell exited the show after the seventh season and this past Emmys would have been his last chance to win the award.

“Yes, I think Steve Carell should have won an Emmy for playing Michael Scott,” Novak told THR. “I think everyone that saw it knows it was one of the great television characters. And he really was the show when he was on the show. I think it’s weird. I do. But what are you gonna do?”
Novak told THR that in regards to films this year, he loved The Artist and Midnight in Paris.
“I’m mostly happy to just hang out with my own cast. We don’t usually get to sit together at these things, so this is a very fun event,” he added. The SAG Awards organize nominees into tables based on their film or television series.
