Halle Berry, Dakota Fanning, Lupita Nyong’o, Emma Stone and Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Kelly Marie Tran will be presenters at the 24th annual awards show, SAG Awards executive producer Kathy Connell announced Thursday. Other confirmed presenters include: Rosanna Arquette, SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris, Mandy Moore, Olivia Munn, Niecy Nash, Gina Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph and Marisa Tomei.
Mary J. Blige, Jason Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Holly Hunter, Daniel Kaluuya, Zoe Kazan, Frances McDormand, Laurie Metcalf, Kumail Nanjiani, Sam Rockwell, Ray Romano, Saoirse Ronan and Allison Williams — will also serve as presenters at the 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, The Hollywood Reporter revealed exclusively.
Connie Britton, Geena Davis, Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson, Brie Larson, Laura Linney, Leslie Mann, Megan Mullally and Sarah Silverman were added to the presenters lineup the weekend before the awards show.
Producers revealed last month that the ceremony’s 13 acting awards will be presented by women, along with the two stunt categories, which are handed out before the televised ceremony. While the ceremony aims to celebrate women, the SAG Awards will abide by their tradition of having cast members, both male and female, represent the film for which their work has been recognized. The motion to prioritize female visibility at the televised event is designed as a response to the slew of sexual harassment scandals in Hollywood. Traditionally, a man and a woman have been paired to present each category’s winner at the SAG Awards.
“Beginning with the Women’s March in January, it’s been the year of the woman,” SAG Awards executive producer Kathy Connell told The Hollywood Reporter on the morning the nominations were announced in December. “This is a unifying salute to women who have been very brave and speaking up.”
The decision doesn’t mean that the broadcast won’t include men onstage at all, as video clips from the film ensemble category might be introduced by its nominated male actors. And, of course, the male winners will take the stage.
“How many times has a woman walked into a room of predominantly men? We thought, maybe for one night, it’ll be more than 50/50 [onstage],” said Connell.
The SAG Awards are set for Jan. 21 and will be broadcast on TNT and TBS. As previously announced, Kristen Bell will serve as the ceremony’s first-ever host and Morgan Freeman will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. The nominations are led by Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri in the film categories, and Big Little Lies, GLOW and Stranger Things in the TV categories.
Earlier this week, attendees at the Golden Globes wore all black in support of the newly created Time’s Up initiative and the already widespread #MeToo movement, and also to promote gender equality.
