It’s hard to believe that Sam Smith has only really been in the public eye for a little over a year, having shot to super-stardom with the heartbreak anthem “Stay With Me.” But now, the U.K. native is doing what pop stars do best: starring in a major, high fashion ad campaign.
The 23-year-old announced via Twitter this morning that he would not only be the face of Balenciaga’s upcoming fall 2015 men’s ads, but also collaborating with the label for a project teased as #balxsamsmith.

Previews of the campaign, which show the singer as a backlit, shadowy silhouette in a dungeon-esque basement, were also shared on Balenciaga’s Instagram account with the caption, “Lights, Camera…Stay tuned for the upcoming FW15 Men’s Campaign in collaboration with Sam Smith. @samsmithworld #samsmith #Balenciaga #balxsamsmith.”
The brand, currently headed up by Alexander Wang, also teased an upcoming campaign video, which was directed by Josh Olins.
It’s been a whirlwind year for Smith, who, in addition to cleaning up at the 2015 Grammy Awards with four wins, has also gone through a weight-loss transformation (which was thoroughly documented on the singer’s Instagram) as well as vocal cord surgery, which temporarily left him unable to speak.
