Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the U.S. rights to Julio Vincent Gambuto’s coming-of-age comedy Team Marco.
The feature directorial debut was shot on Staten Island in New York City and stars Owen Vaccaro, Anthony Patellis, Anastasia Ganias-Gellin, Louis Cancelmi and Jacob Laval (The Plot Against America). Samuel Goldwyn Films plans a cable On-Demand and digital platform release on Nov. 20.
Team Marco portrays a house-bound boy obsessed with playing video games having his life upturned when his grandfather moves in. Marco is eventually encouraged to play the game of bocce outside, where he discovers a neighborhood crew of old-school seniors at a local court.
“I am thrilled to bring this thoroughly charming film to audiences this fall. Julio has made an entertaining and sweet movie that works for the whole family,” Meg Longo of Samuel Goldwyn Films said in a statement.
Team Marco was co-written by Gambuto and B.R. Uzun. “We couldn’t be happier to join the Samuel Goldwyn Films family. We made Team Marco to share a message of love, of friendship, of community. In light of all that is happening in our world today, that message is now more important than ever,” director Gambuto said in a statement.
The film is a production of Boro Five and was produced by Sam Sandweiss. The executive producer credits are shared by Gambuto, Andrew Scrivani, Stephen R. Malley, J.R. Prestifilippo, Jr., Tom Ruane, Michael and Carrie Lamb, Bill Jackson, Soo-Jeong Kang, John and Michele Scrivani, John and Terry Scrivani, Maria Colbert, Alan M. Askew and The Lev-Ari Family.
The acquisition deal was negotiated by Meg Longo on behalf of Samuel Goldwyn Films and Orly Ravid of Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp on behalf of the filmmakers.
