Golden Globes: Sandra Oh, Andy Samberg Address “Elephant in the Room” in New Promo

With less than a week to go before the 2019 Golden Globes, co-hosts Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh are giving viewers a sneak peek at the sort of banter they can expect on the night of Sunday, Jan. 6.

The pair showcase their silly side and tweak audience assumptions in a series of recently released promos for the awards show.

In the most recent commercial, shared via NBC Entertainment’s Twitter account and later posted to NBC’s YouTube account, Oh and Samberg tease the possibility of addressing “the elephant in the room” — literally.

After Oh invites viewers to tune in to see if they discuss the elephant, Samberg offers, “or if we’ve gotten it to leave before then.”

“Seriously, there’s an elephant in that room,” Oh adds as the camera pans over to a locked door made to look like an animal’s trapped behind it.

“Please help us,” she says, as Samberg adds, “It’s so big and mad.”

In earlier commercials, posted to NBC’s Twitter account and YouTube channel over the weekend, the pair take turns dramatically saying various words and try to master their “best friends” handshake.

After they fumble around, Oh admits, “We just met.”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the hosting gig earlier this month, Oh said she was happily horrified.

“Oh my God, I’m terrified! I am super thrilled, so it’s the good terror,” she said. “It’s like when you have to do something and you can’t see how you could possibly pull it together, but that uncertainty excites you.”

Samberg will take the stage just days before his comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to relaunch on NBC after five seasons on Fox. The Saturday Night Live alum is no stranger to live television and awards shows, previously hosting the 2015 Emmys.

While Oh may seem like an unconventional choice, she showed off her comedic chops at this year’s Emmys, where, as with the Globes, she was a nominee for her starring role on BBC America’s Killing Eve. At the Emmys, Oh and Samberg had a funny moment when they presented together and mocked the Oscars’ infamous La La Land best picture gaffe.

The 76th annual Golden Globes airs on NBC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, live from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, on Sunday, Jan. 6.
