As she prepares to host Saturday Night Live this week, actress Saoirse Ronan revealed her favorite SNL sketches while visiting Late Night With Seth Meyers on Tuesday night.
“It feels like the Irish are taking over SNL for the whole week, as we should,” Ronan, who is Irish, said proudly. “It’s about time.” U2 — Ireland’s most famous musical export — is set to be the musical guest for Ronan’s hosting gig.
Feeling excited over her upcoming hosting duties, Ronan reflected on her favorite sketches from the comedy show. “I loved all of the sketches that you wrote,” Ronan told the former SNL star and writer. “Every single one!” to which Meyers joked, “This is some real Irish charm happening right here.”
The two then began bantering about how only “smart people” would understand Meyers’ comedy bits on SNL, with Meyers admitting, “There were nights where definitely only smart people got it, and they were elsewhere.” Ronan also expressed her admiration for Kristen Wiig sketches such as “Target Lady,” “Sue and Penelope” and Wiig’s infamous “Just Kidding” bit.

Switching gears to discuss her upcoming film Lady Bird, where she plays an American high school student, Ronan revealed a surprising source for preparing for her student role.
“Saved by the Bell. That’s how it is in high school,” Ronan said. Adding, “Everyone outside of America, pretty much, definitely in the Western world, obviously, grows up with American pop culture. So, like, Saved by the Bell and Sabrina the Teenage Witch …” Ronan explained before also admitting that she thought she was psychic after watching the Disney Channel series That’s So Raven.
“Genuinely, when I was a kid, I used to do the look,” Ronan said, referring to the That’s So Raven character’s infamous look for having a psychic vision. Meyers, who said he’d never seen the show, joked, “I think, in my defense, if I told people it was a show I watched, it would have been creepy.”
Ronan will host SNL on Dec. 2.
