She is the ingénue who is poised to become a massive fashion star (in case that emerald green Calvin Klein gown wasn’t proof enough) and best supporting actress nominee Saoirse Ronan’s beauty game is certainly evolving just as gracefully as her style.
“She’s definitely more open and she trusts me and is open to trying new colors and techniques,” says her longtime makeup artist Mai Quynh. To play up the color of the gown, Quynh employed a palate of grey and charcoal from Chanel.
“I started with Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mysterio ($36), from lash line to crease. Then, I layered with CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Tissé Smoky ($61),” says Quynh. “I smudged grey shadow along the lower lash line and rimmed the eyes with Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Feuilles ($33). I finished with two coats of Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir ($32).”
To ensure the eyes were the standout feature, and, of course, not overwhelm Ronan’s fair skin and slight frame, Quynh layered Chanel Perles et Fantaisies Highlighter ($70) and Chanel Powder Blush in Fandango ($45) — a warm pink-brown — onto the apples of her cheeks.
The makeup artist used a peach nude tone called Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Adrienne ($37) on the actress’ lips.
Ronan’s effortless and age-appropriate look continued with the lived in, textured waves given to her by celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel.
“I fell in love with the construction and details of the Calvin Klein dress,” says Abergel, who looked to some of his favorite iconic women from Bianca Jagger, Faye Dunaway, Kate Moss and now Saoirse who he says, “represents a modern icon — confident, sultry and with a fresh youthfulness.”
To capture her youthful vibe, Abergel created an undone textured blowout with a brushed out beautiful wave hand raked back away from the face.
He started by applying John Frieda Luxurious Volume Perfectly Full Mousse ($5.99) all over the roots of her towel dried hair. He then air-dried the hair with 100-percent cold air to achieve maximum volume.
Then using a medium-sized round brush he dried the hair applying hot air to form the style. After dividing the hair in two-inch sections, he then wrapped each section into a Velcro roller allowing it cool and set, spraying the entire head with John Frieda Luxurious Volume Forever Full Hairspray ($6.99) to set the look.
After taking out the rollers, that volume was achieved by brushing the hair with a Mason Pearson brush (spritzed with more hairspray) into soft textured sexy waves.
Abergel then backcombed the front pieces of hair to create height for a sexy sultry side swept effect and misted the hairspray to lock in the style for the night.
