Sarah Jessica Parker admitted to feeling “heartbroken” over her Sex and the City co-star Kim Cattrall’s claim that the castmates were never friends during their six-season run and two franchise films.
During her Wednesday night appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the actress revealed that she found Cattrall’s claims “very upsetting.” “I found it very upsetting because that’s not the way I recall our experience,” Parker said, visibly saddened by her former costar’s statement.
“It’s sad, but I always think that what ties us together is this singular experience. It was a professional experience, but it became personal because it was years and years of our lives, so I’m hoping that that sort of eclipses anything that’s been recently spoken,” Parker told Cohen. The actress also explained that she views the experience on the show and films as a “privilege,” for the cast partook in something that many viewers connected with.
While appearing on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories in the U.K. a few months ago, Cattrall explained that she strictly considered her Sex in the City costars as her “colleagues.” “We’ve never been friends,” Cattrall said at the time. “We’ve been colleagues, and in some ways it’s a very healthy place to be.”
To make light of the situation, Cohen suggested that Cattrall’s Samantha character be recast, rallying for Sharon Stone to take over the role.
“I think you’re not the first person that’s said it,” said Parker. “I think it’s a really interesting idea.”
Parker then revealed that a third installment in the film franchise wouldn’t be ruled out because of Cattrall’s unwillingness to participate. “I think once everybody has thoroughly experienced the grieving process then Michael Patrick [King] can go back and sort of ponder what he might want to do to perceive right.”
