‘Sex and the City 3’ Isn’t Happening, Says Sarah Jessica Parker

Bad news for any fans anticipating Sex and the City 3 — it’s not happening.

While attending the New York City Ballet Gala on Thursday night, Sarah Jessica Parker told Extra that there won’t be a third film.

“It’s over… we’re not doing it,” said a Monse-clad Parker, who famously played Carrie Bradshaw on the HBO hit that ran from 1998 to 2004 before getting made for the big screen in 2008 and again in 2010.

“I’m disappointed,” Parker added. “We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”

Parker’s confirmation comes on the heels of the Daily Mail‘s report on Thursday that the project was being held off due to Kim Cattrall’s alleged demands. Cattrall reportedly wanted Warner Bros. to produce her other films or she wouldn’t participate in SATC 3. However, Cattrall responded to the allegations via a tweet that read, “The only ‘DEMAND’ I ever made was that I didn’t want to do a 3rd film,” adding that she spelled that out in 2016.

Kristin Davis, who played Charlotte in the hit series, also weighed in on the news.

“It is true that we are not going to be able to make a 3rd film. I wish that we could have made the final chapter, on our own terms, to complete the stories of our characters. It is deeply frustrating not to able to share that chapter (beautifully written by MPK) with all of you,” Davis wrote on Instagram, referring to Sex and the City writer-director-producer Michael Patrick King’s script. “So we will just have our memories, but please know that all of the love and support for us through the years is felt by us and we are so grateful for all of you! SATC forever in our hearts.”

Like Parker and Davis, we’re just as disappointed.

 

I love to look back at the pics from our LONG history of Sex and the City. I am incredibly lucky to have gotten to play Charlotte through all of her ups and downs ( epitomized in one of my favorite episodes here). It is true that we are not going to be able to make a 3rd film. I wish that we could have made the final chapter, on our own terms, to complete the stories of our characters.
