“As soon as I saw Sarah Jessica [Parker]’s headpiece I knew we had to give her a bold, beautiful eye with a pop of colors to make [them] stand out,” says celebrity makeup artist Leslie Lopez, who was responsible for the Sex and the City star’s winning look at the Met Gala.
“I wanted to bring out that gorgeous hue of jade in her headpiece,” she tells Pret-a-Reporter of the look she describes as “beautiful and bold.” It went perfectly with the fashion plate’s insanely on-point Philip Treacy headpiece and SJP x H&M gown.

To create the look, Parker’s longtime makeup artist first lined the top and bottom of her eyes with Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Jungle ($28). Next she blended it outward to create a dramatic smudged effect on the top of her lids and under her lower lash line.

After that came Laura Mercier Luster Eye Colour in Sherazade ($24) all over Parker’s lids, almost to her brows, “to make her eyes pop.” The same color was used under another coat of the Jungle Caviar Stick on the bottom lash line, for a fully rimmed effect. After curling her lashes with Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler ($20), Lopez finished with coats of Maybelline Lash Sensational Washable Mascara in Blackest Black ($9).
Lopez tells us the focus was definitely clear: “Her eyes are the aspect I chose to play up,” she says. “They’re a bit different than the norm — we had so much fun collaborating on the shade!”
