Sarah Palin’s ‘Undefeated’ Doc Sets World Premiere for Tuesday in Iowa

The Sarah Palin film The Undefeated has booked a 111-year old historical landmark in Iowa for its world premiere next week, and the star of the film will attend the event.

Victory Film Group and ARC Entertainment said Saturday that former Alaska Governor Palin and her husband Todd will attend the premiere, which is scheduled at 5 p.m. central time Tuesday at the Pella Opera House, a venue that hosted live stage plays before hitting its stride with silent movies in the early part of the last century.

Palin said in a statement, “We are very excited to visit the historic Pella and its opera house and look forward to seeing the finished film for the first time with fellow Americans from the heartland.”

Undefeated is the well-hyped documentary about the former vice presidential candidate that was written and directed by Stephen Bannon. It was produced by Bannon and Victory’s Dan Fleuette and Glenn Evans.

Several pundits who appear in the film, Andrew Breitbart, Tammy Bruce and Mark Levin, have also been invited.

Bannon told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday that the event would be low-key, with “no red carpet and no klieg lights,” but keeping it that way might be problematic given the media circus that follows Palin around. Bannon and company have invited some 320 guests, mostly locals.

“The local citizenry,” he said, “the people who restored the opera house, volunteers from the state. We’re not inviting the political muckety mucks.”

Bannon said he researched 100 venues, including old barns, drive-in theaters, cornfields, community squares, before settling on the Pella Opera House.

“It couldn’t be further from Hollywood in location and values,” Bannon said. “That little opera house and community has seen good times and bad and persevered. That’s the undefeated. That’s America, not Hollywood pop culture.”

Undefeated begins limited release on July 15 at 10 AMC theaters in Dallas, Denver, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Atlanta, Orange County, Phoenix, Houston, Indianapolis and Independence, Missouri.

At the film’s website, they’re asking visitors to vote on which other AMC theaters ought to show the film, though plans for wider release were vague Friday.
