Discovery Communications’ TLC U.K. will create a British version of hit wedding series Say Yes to the Dress.
The U.S. show has been one of the biggest hits on the U.K. channel, reaching 15 million viewers last year.
The U.K. version will star British brides and royal dress designer David Emanuel. Half Yard Productions, the production firm behind the original, will make 40 episodes of the 30-minute series.
“Say Yes to the Dress UK will unveil the inner workings of one of England’s top bridal boutiques, filmed at Confetti & Lace at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex, one of the largest shopping areas in Europe with 500,000 visitors per week,” TLC U.K. said.
Emanuel will be teamed with Christine Dando, Confetti & Lace owner and designer and her consultants. “I’m simply thrilled to be part of the global expansion of this smash hit TV show for TLC,” said Emanuel. “This is an exciting challenge and I can’t wait to meet my brides to be!”
Clare Laycock, vp, head of channels, TLC & Investigation Discovery, said: “Say Yes to the Dress is one of TLC’s top-rating and most-loved shows, and we are delighted to add a British spin and style to this extremely popular format.”
Added Mark Procter, acting head of factual entertainment, Discovery Networks International: “This commission not only signifies our ongoing commitment to the wedding genre, but also bolsters the TLC schedule with more feel-good, formatted factual entertainment.”
The series will air on TLC in the U.K. and Ireland this summer.
The Say Yes franchise has included a slew of spinoffs, including Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss, Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids and Say Yes to the Dress: Randy Knows Best.
