A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas may still be a couple of weeks away from release, but the stars of the stoner comedies are promising it works as a holiday-themed film.
John Cho and Kal Penn spoke to The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet at the Scream Awards, Spike TV’s annual event honoring sci-fi, horror and thriller related films. Cho and Penn presented at the event, which filmed on Saturday, but will air on Tuesday, Oct. 18, on Spike TV.

THR asked the co-stars how their stoner film would work for the holidays.
“I would say that the movies get a lot of attention for being buddy comedies, or stoner movies and kind of raunchy, but there’s always this through-line of heart in these characters,” said Penn, who previously worked as the Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison, but left the post to film the third installment in the Harold and Kumar series.

“They’re love stories. Always have been,” said Cho of the films. “They’re love stories about two guys who love one another.”
“Christmas movies are also love stories, and that’s what we have here,” he continued. “Except we have more boobies, and drugs, and Neil Patrick Harris.” A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas opens in theaters on November 4.
