For those who have wanted to get into comics but didn’t know where to start, Scribd has some good news for you: the launch of a brand new comics section that will give subscribers access to more than 10,000 releases from Marvel Entertainment, Archie Comics and other publishers for a flat monthly fee. Think of it as Netflix for comics.
The subscription, which costs $8.99 per month, allows international access to titles from Marvel, Archie, Dynamite Entertainment, IDW Publishing, Top Cow, Top Shelf, Valiant and Zenescope, marking the most high-profile attempt to create an all-in-one digital subscription service for comics yet.
While there are other subscription offerings, the presence of Marvel in the Scribd catalog is the game changer; previously, its titles were only available for purchase or through its own Marvel Unlimited service.
In a statement announcing the new service, Scribd CEO and co-founder Trip Adler said that the company was “very excited to take this step in expanding our subscription service beyond books,” adding that the comics section “gives comics readers the freedom of unlimited reading, while also giving our ebook and audiobook lovers the opportunity to discover comics and graphic novels.”
