Only a few days after formally leaving the White House, former press secretary Sean Spicer’s post-administration career is coming into focus.
Spicer is talking with major Hollywood entertainment companies about ways to take his talents and name recognition to television, either by making cameo appearances or acting as a sort of consultant on shows that “have a political or current events focus,” a person with knowledge of the situation tells The Hollywood Reporter.
Spicer is also considering literary opportunities — including books and print columns — and potential gigs as a political commentator on radio or television. There’s a dearth of cable news contributors that have actual experience working for Donald Trump, which would seemingly make Spicer an in-demand commodity — though at least one cable network, CNN, has already nixed a potential deal.
When asked about his future, Spicer told THR: “I’ve been humbled by the amount of interest, and now that I’ve completely left government, I’ll be looking to engage in those discussions.”
In the near future, he will focus on delivering paid speeches through an exclusive agreement with speakers bureau Worldwide Speakers Group, as first reported by Politico.
In his official bio on Worldwide Speakers Group’s website, Spicer is described as “a lifelong Republican operative who worked his way up through the ranks and whom colleagues know as relentless, quick-witted and good-humored.” His areas of expertise include “government & politics” as well as “news & media.”
Spicer is not the only former White House communications staffer to weigh a move to TV. Anthony Scaramucci, who differs from Spicer in both style and substance, is also reportedly interested in taking his “Mooch” brand to the small screen.
Spicer, of course, became a household name in the first few months of the Trump administration, though he’s been critical of the way he was portrayed by Saturday Night Live and actress Melissa McCarthy.
