Seth Gordon, who directed the surprise comedy hit Horrible Bosses, has signed on to helm Identity Thief for Universal.
Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy are attached to star in the comedy, which is about man who has his identity stolen by a woman. Steve Conrad wrote the initial draft and Craig Mazin is currently rewriting the screenplay.
Scott Stuber is producing while Peter Morgan is exec producing. Universal’s Scott Bernstein is overseeing the project for the studio.

Gordon, who hails from the documentary world and had his breakthrough with The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, made his studio debut with the 2008 comedy Four Christmases, co-starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. He grabbed Hollywood’s attention last summer with Bosses, the all-star comedy in which Bateman starred. The movie made $117 million domestically and $209 million worldwide.
