Waterston, who plays ACN chief Charlie Skinner and is a self-professed news junkie, says, “Really what we represent is the aspirational hopes of a lot of people who are in the [news] business."
Joe PuglieseSam Waterston is once again heading to Central Park this summer for Shakespeare in the Park, The Public Theater announced Thursday.
The seasoned actor, most recently of HBO’s The Newsroom, will play Prospero in Tony nominee Michael Greif‘s staging of The Tempest, running from May 27 to July 5 at the Delacorte Theater. The role will mark Waterston’s 13th Shakespearean production at The Public since he first debuted in As You Like It in 1963.
The Bank of America-sponsored lineup of free theater, which is celebrating its 53rd year, will then continue from July 27 to Aug. 23 with Cymbeline, directed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan, who is returning after helming King Lear last year.
“With these two gorgeous productions, we will have produced all of Shakespeare’s late romances in one season — The Winter’s Tale in Public Works and Pericles with the Mobile [Shakespeare] Unit,” said artistic director Oskar Eustis. “These wise, magical and emotional works were Shakespeare’s climactic achievement in the theater. In these plays, hope can be found in the darkest hour, every loss can be restored, and even death is not permanent.”
