The 2018 IHeartRadio Much Music Video Award nominations were unveiled Wednesday, and Canadian Shawn Mendes leads the field with eight in all.
Close behind with seven mentions is Drake. Alessia Cara, the best new artist winner at the Grammy Awards, scored five nods, and former MMVA host Ed Sheeran and DJ Marshmello landed four nods each.
The best pop artist or group competition will see Cara, Sheeran and Mendes go up against Camila Cabello, Halsey and Meghan Trainor. And the best artist category has entrants from Cardi B, Drake, Mendes, Cabello and Post Malone.
Canadian superstar Drake was a big winner at the MMVAs last year, having won the most buzzworthy Canadian artist, as he beat out Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Cara and Mendes. The “Hotline Bling” singer also won for best Canadian single of the year.
Mendes, Cara, Halsey and Marshmello have already been announced as performers at the Canadian awards show Aug. 26 in Toronto.
The MMVAs, to be hosted by Awkwafina, will air on the Much, CTV and CTV channels, and provide a platform for the U.S.-based iHeartRadio after it signed an exclusive pact with local broadcaster Bell Media to launch its brand in Canada.
