The latest “appetizer” for Lars von Trier‘s sex-heavy double feature Nymphomaniac has arrived, delivering the raciest clip yet. So racy, it broke YouTube’s rules on nudity.
The film’s expansive marketing campaign has reveled in the chaste. But now, courtesy of stars Shia LaBeouf and Stacy Martin, playing a young Charlotte Gainsbourg, the film is owning up to its titillating title.

In a brief sequence from Nymphomaniac‘s fifth chapter, “Little Organ School,” we see three panels bouncing between an array of imagery. At various points, Martin is seen interlocked with LaBeouf and two older men. Less understandable are the appearances by a naked man walking on black-and-white film, a preying leopard hiding in the bushes, and an organ playing a bit of Baroque music.
The description provided with the clip is equally mystifying: “A chorale prelude by Bach: Three voices each with its own character, but in complete harmony. In other words: POLYPHONY. The nymphomaniac is easily inspired, and acts it out.”

Earlier today, the film’s official YouTube channel posted the clip to the streaming service. Within hours, the erotic footage had to be pulled down for violating the terms of service, which state “most nudity is not allowed, particularly if it is in a sexual context. … There are exceptions for some educational, documentary, scientific, and artistic content, but only if that is the sole purpose of the video and it is not gratuitously graphic.”
Nymphomaniac will premiere in Denmark this December and is predicted to screen in Cannes next year.
Update: After THR confirmed with a spokesperson for the film that the clip had been removed over nudity, YouTube reversed its decision and restored the footage on the site. “With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call,” says a YouTube spokesperson. “When it’s brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it.” The service also added an age-restriction in order to protect younger viewers.
