Shia LaBeouf is throwing in the towel.
The actor tweeted early Friday morning that he’s retiring from public life, a revelation that comes after he received, and tweeted, a cease-and-desist letter from a lawyer for Daniel Clowes, whose comics he’s accused of plagiarizing with his short film HowardCantour.com.

After apologizing somewhat for the similarities between his film and Clowes’ work, LaBeouf has since plagiarized other famous apologies and even commissioned a skywriting mea culpa.
Now it seems the actor is done trying to explain himself.
In light of the recent attacks against my artistic integrity, I am retiring from all public life.

It’s unknown how this “retirement” will manifest itself, and LaBeouf’s Twitter account was still active as of Friday afternoon. It’s also unclear to what extent LaBeouf’s remarks were prompted by Clowes’ attorney’s letter.
Late Tuesday, the actor tweeted photos of a letter from attorney Michael Kump at Kinsella Weitzman.

In the letter, Kump says LaBeouf is “seriously out of control.”
“He must stop his improper and outlandish conduct directed at Mr. Clowes and his works, and [LaBeouf] must take all necessary and appropriate steps to redress his wrongs. … Leave Mr. Clowes alone, and address and fix these problems immediately,” Kump wrote.
LaBeouf’s rep has not yet responded to The Hollywood Reporter‘s request for comment.
