The ad-free days of Snapchat are over.
The photo-messaging app announced Friday that it will start running advertisements. The ads will begin appearing on the service this weekend.
The company says the ads will appear periodically in users’ “Recent Updates” section but will never show up in the snap stream.

“We want to see if we can deliver an experience that’s fun and informative, the way ads used to be, before they got creepy and targeted,” the company stated in a blog post Friday, adding that the company needs the ads to make money.
One report states that one of the first ads appearing on the service is for the upcoming horror film Ouija.
