Sarah Palin may or may not be able to see Russia from her house, but she definitely saw some well-known faces on Sunday.
The former governor of Alaska, who has famously been portrayed by Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live, made a surprise appearance at the show’s 40th anniversary special.
The crowd was very excited to see Palin, who brought her nephew with her to the special. Palin told reporters that she did a double take when she first saw Fey impersonating her because Fey was such a dead-ringer.
Palin also appeared in a Q&A segment with Jerry Seinfeld during the special, where she asked how much money Lorne Michaels would pay to ensure that she runs for president in 2016.
Fey’s impression of Palin became indelible throughout the 2008 presidential campaign, with Fey frequently using the catchphrase “you betcha” to send up the vice-presidential candidate.
Palin herself appeared in an SNL episode in October 2008, just weeks before she and John McCain lost the election to Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Palin, whose appearance at the anniversary special had not been announced, was among many celebrities to attend the star-studded event, including countless alums and such previous hosts as Justin Timberlake, James Franco and Melissa McCarthy.
