Snowpiercer Film Still - H 2013
SEOUL – Bong Joon Ho‘s sci-fi blockbuster Snowpiercer won best film at the 33rd Korean Association of Film Critics (KAFC) Awards on Monday. It also took home best director and best cinematography.
Set in a dystopian future, Snowpiercer is one of the year’s highest-grossing films, with over 9.3 million admissions. It is most expensive Korean film to date. Bong’s first English-language film — starring Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton — it was also sold to a record 167 countries.

The Face Reader, also won multiple prizes at the film critics’ event. The KAFC handed it awards for best actor (Song Kang-ho), supporting actor (Jo Jung-suk), and music. Another box-office smash, with 9.1 million admissions, the period epic is about a man who can read people’s fate according to their facial features. It recently swept prizes at the 50th Dae Jong Film Awards (Grand Bell Film Awards), Korea’s equivalent of the Oscars.
Local critics named Hope star Uhm Ji-won as best actress, and Miracle in Cell No. 7‘s Park Shin-hye as best supporting actress. Lee Jung-jae received the CJ CGV Star Award for his roles in The Face Reader and New World. Hwayi‘s Yeo Jin-goo and Nobody’s Daughter Haewon‘s Jeong Eun-chae were this year’s best new actors.
A total of 11 titles were chosen as Films of the Year: Snowpiercer, The Berlin File, The Face Reader, New World, The Terror Live, Jiseul, Hwayi, Cold Eyes, Miracle in Cell No. 7, Our Sunhi, and Hide and Seek.
The awards ceremony will take place Nov. 29 at the Press Center, Seoul.
