Sofia Coppola is getting behind the camera for Cartier.
The French luxury watch and jewelry maker has partnered with the Academy Award-winning director to create a film timed to the relaunch of its Panthère watch, which was originally released in 1983 and has been out of production since 2004. Launching in June, the Panthére watch is being reissued due to new demand from clients, reports Business of Fashion.

The film, which is set to launch via social media and in select theaters in June, stars Gods of Egypt actress Courtney Eaton and disco queen Donna Summer’s daughters Brooklyn and Amanda Sudano.
“I love the era when the Panthère debuted and I think of it as glamorous and sexy, and thought about films and the women of that era,” Coppola told BoF of the film’s inspiration, adding that she imagines the woman wearing the timepiece is “visiting L.A. and away from work, and is enjoying the sun, romance and her friends.”
Coppola was named a “friend” of Cartier last year, appearing in the announcement modeling the house’s Clé de Cartier watch.
In addition to her Cartier film, the director behind Lost in Translation (2003) is working on The Beguiled, a remake of the 1971 original starring Clint Eastwood and based on Thomas Cullinan’s 1966 novel of the same name. Coppola’s version stars Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman, and reunites the filmmaker with Kirsten Dunst, who starred in Marie Antoinette (2006), and Elle Fanning, who appeared in Somewhere (2010).
In celebration of the Panthère watch, the company is hosting a party in Los Angeles on May 5. Details surrounding the exclusive soiree have yet to be revealed, including its location and sure-to-be star-studded guest list. Cartier’s reopening of its Fifth Avenue Mansion in September saw a number of A-listers in attendance, including Rooney Mara, Sienna Miller, Uma Thurman, Chloe Grace Moretz, Katie Holmes, and of course, Coppola.
Reps for Cartier and Coppola did not immediately respond to The Hollywood Reporter‘s request for comment.
