Solange Knowles is opening up about the infamous “elevator incident” between herself and brother-in-law Jay Z at May’s Met Gala afterparty — sort of.
A joint statement made by the Knowles-Carter family immediately following the incident didn’t quell public speculation about the pop icons’ relationship despite reassurance that “they both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.” Until recently, Solange has remained quiet about the details surrounding the three-minute security tape that caught the singer furiously kicking and swinging at the rapper — as Beyonce, his wife and her sister, looked on — in a Standard Hotel elevator in New York.

For the cover of Lucky Magazine’s August issue, however, Solange briefly addressed what she called “that thing.” After discussing her upcoming album, she revealed that her inspiration throughout her career has been the values her parents taught her: hard work and the love and support of family.
In the interview, she offered reassurance about her relationship with her sister, saying: “We’ve always held each other down no matter what. That’s something I’m drilling into [son] Julez now.”
She also confirmed her family’s previous statement made on May 15: “What’s important is that my family and I are all good,” she says. “What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that.”
The May 15 statement concluded, “At the end of the day, families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family.”

Knowles told Lucky that she still believes “family is a centering force” for her, and she revealed that she would like to expand hers once her new album, due out in the fall, is finished. She and son Julez are living with boyfriend Alan Ferguson in New Orleans.
Although the situation now seems to be resolved with a happy ending, none of the parties involved has yet to give a reason for the initial fight, as it was a “private matter.“ And while this may disappoint a few concerned fans, the public still might find some solace in the explanation offered during a satirical interview on Saturday Night Live.
