In anticipation of Monday’s solar eclipse, the folks at Jose Cuervo have created some appropriately themed cocktails to make the event that much more enjoyable — or to help you deal with the stress of navigating through a crowd of rubberneckers staring into the sky.
Bring these recipes to your viewing party along with your solar eclipse protective glasses for a tipsy good time. (While you’re at it, bring a sheet cake, too.)
Total Especial Eclipse
2 oz Jose Cuervo Especial
2 oz orange juice
1/2 oz. charcoal lemonade
1 tsp grenadine
Shake tequila and orange juice and pour into a rocks glass over ice. Mix charcoal lemonade and grenadine and slowly pour into the cocktail. Garnish with lime wedge.

Dark Side of the Sun

3/4 oz lime juice 3/4 oz
1:1 simple syrup
1/2 oz Creme de Cassis
Shake tequila, lime juice and simple syrup and pour into a rocks glass over ice. Top ice with Creme de Cassis and garnish with a mint sprig and lime wheel.
If you had any doubt about the levels of excitement Americans are feeling for this momentous occasion — or really, anything that’s completely unrelated to the president — you should know that to celebrate the celestial event, Bonnie Tyler will perform her 1983 hit, “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” during the actual eclipse. God bless America.
