Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton is joining many fellow industry notables on the USC School of Cinematic Arts’ board of councilors.
“Michael understands and appreciates the full range of our programs, and his input will be invaluable as we continue to grow our seven divisions,” said Elizabeth M. Daley, dean of the school, in a statement on Wednesday.

The school said that the exec would be added to a list of councilors that includes, among others, Jim Gianopulos, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Brian Grazer and David Geffen.
“The Board of Councilors works in the interest of SCA’s students, who will be the future leaders of our industry,” said board of councilors’ chair Frank Price in a statement. “Michael is actively working on laying the groundwork for that future, and he will use his expertise to support the students and inspire their future contributions.”
Lynton, who joined Sony in 2004, renewed his contract with the company in April. In addition to his new duties at USC, the exec also serves on the board of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Rand Corp. and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
