Sony is expanding the release of controversial comedy The Interview to include most cable VOD systems and PlayStation, the studio announced Wednesday.
The studio has reached agreements with In Demand affiliates, including Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cox Communications, and Time Warner Cable; VUBIQUITY affiliates including Charter Communications, Cablevision, and AT&T U-verse TV; Verizon FiOS; and DIRECTV. The movie will be available for $5.99 starting as early as Wednesday, and will roll out in different markets through the weekend.

Walmart’s digital VOD service, VUDU, will also be offering The Interview, which was at the center of the crippling hack attack against the studio for the past month.
The studio also announced that the comedy, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, will be available on the PlayStation Network on Thursday.
The Interview is currently in limited release in more than 330 indie theaters, and also available online through Google Play, YouTube Movies, Microsoft’s Xbox Video, iTunes and the website www.seetheinterview.com. The film will expand to more than 580 theaters by Friday.
“We have always sought the widest possible distribution for The Interview, and want to thank our new partners for helping us make that happen,” said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment, in a statement.
