Robotech Art - H 2013
Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to the science-fiction anime Robotech in hopes of creating a new franchise to be produced by Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton, who together have overseen the 300 movies.
Michael Gordon, whose credits include 300 and GI Joe, is writing the project, which will be overseen by the studio’s Doug Belgrad, Michael De Luca and Matthew Milam. “With a history that offers an epic love triangle, a renegade hero, and a world on the brink of extinction, Robotech offers a wide scope and a rich and impressive universe where the story possibilities are endless,” De Luca, Sony production president, said.
A popular TV show during the 1980s, Robotech has given rise to books, role-playing games, video games, toys and collectibles. When the rights to the property became free a short time ago, they were picked up by Canton’s Atmosphere and Nunnari’s Hollywood Gang. Frank Agrama of Harmony Gold, which is the original intellectual property rights holder, will executive produce with Gordon and Jehan Agrama.
The deal, on behalf of Harmony Gold and the producers, was negotiated by Ralph P. Brescia of Bloom Hergott.
