Steve Elzer is stepping down from his position as senior vp media relations at Sony Pictures.
Elzer, who has been at the Culver City studio for the past 12 years, sent out an e-mail to his contacts Tuesday saying that he will be leaving the company in December. “I have had an extraordinary run here and I have nothing but the greatest respect for the team at Sony,” he wrote.
He added that over the next several months he plans to assist Marc Weinstock, co-president of worldwide theatrical marketing, and Charles Sipkins, who joined Sony Pictures Entertainment on Sept. 9 as its new senior communications exec, in the transition.
Sipkins declined to comment. A crisis management specialist, the studio’s new head of communications joined Sony from Sard Verbinnen & Co., a public relations firm active in mergers and acquisitions, and has been charged with “overseeing all aspects of the company’s corporate communications and the existing team at SPE.”
During his tenure, Elzer was known for zealously guarding the studio’s image and especially that of Amy Pascal, co-chairman of SPE and chairman of the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.
