The series, which premiered March 1 on CBS, brings together the critical cache of Breaking Bad‘s Vince Gilligan, who first developed the show back in 2002, with the mainstream commercial track record of David Shore, creator of global hit House M.D. So it was a given that Sony Pictures TV, which is selling Battle Creek worldwide, would have little problem convincing international broadcasters to get onboard.
Sure enough, Sony announced March 6 that the show has sold out worldwide, with deals for more than 100 territories, including RTL for Germany, TF1 in France, Shaw Media in Canada, Globo TV in Brazil and online streaming service iQiyi in China.
“Two of television’s best storytellers have come together to create a great buddy cop story,” said Keith LeGoy, president of international distribution for Sony Pictures Television in a statement. Battle Creek had a strong debut this week in the U.S., performing especially well with a broad audience, so we anticipate viewers around the world will find this series equally engaging.”
Dean Winters (Rescue Me) stars in Battle Creek as Russ Agnew, a successful small-town detective who is challenged by the arrival of a big-city FBI agent, played by Josh Duhamel (Transformers). CBS made a straight-to-series order for Battle Creek, commissioning 13 episodes out of the gate.
