SEOUL — South Korean screen star Ha Ji-won is gearing up for a Hollywood debut with a new contract with UTA. The deal was sealed earlier this month in the U.S. with the agency that represents Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Gwenyth Paltrow, and other A-listers.
This is the first time a Korean actor has signed with the company.

Her UTS representatives are said to be eyeing domestic and international roles in films and TV as well as digital media and endorsements for the actress known for roles on both the big and small screens, including the internationally popular South Korean TV soap Secret Garden, period drama Hwang Jini, big-budget monster flick Sector 7, and one of Korae’s highest grossing films of all time Haeundae. They are also looking into Korea-U.S. co-productions.
The 35-year-old is expected to foray overseas next year as she is contracted to appear in Hwatu, a local period piece that will begin airing on MBC in November. She will continue to be represented by Korean agency HaeWaDal Entertainment, which she founded in August.
