South Korea’s Showbox has inked multiple deals for crime actioner The Prison, which will get a North America release at the end of the month via Well Go USA.
The film, which debuted at the American Film Market, has since sold to key territories including Australia and New Zealand (JBG Pictures); China (Lemon Tree); France, Switzerland and Africa (Swift Productions); Japan (The Klockworx); the Philippines (Viva Communications); Taiwan (MovieCloud); and the United Kingdom (JBG Pictures). Rights for in-flight distribution went to Emphasis.
The film directed by Na Hyun will open in South Korean theaters March 23 before hitting select U.S. and other North American screens March 31.
The Prison features veteran star Han Seok-kyu (The Berlin File) opposite popular actor Kim Rae-won (Gangnam Blues). Kim plays a former police inspector who is imprisoned after a hit-and-run accident. While jailed, he realizes that the entire prison, including the guard and warden, is controlled by an inmate, played by Han, and joins the giant crime ring.
