‘Spider-Man’ Musical Mocked on Sesame Street (Video)

In a clip released Monday by the PBS show, Grover stars in Spider-Monster: The Musical. A single theatergoer comes to the show. “I can’t wait to see him fly! I wonder where everyone is,” he says, in a possible dig to poor reviews of the show. REVIEWS: What the critics say

“I am Spider-Monster. Watch me fly to the sky!” says Grover, in a Spider-Man costume, once the show starts, before promptly falling on the one puppet in the audience, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the multiple accidents that have taken place in the $70 million production. “This is only our 17th opening night sir, we’ve got a few kinks to work out,” explains Grover. “I can fix this. Hey Bono, could you give me a boost next time?”

On take two, a giant orange puppet carries Grover out, and tosses him into the audience, much to the puppet’s dismay.

“You must be patient, sir. It’s Bono’s first show ever,” says Grover.

Spider-Man on Broadway re-opened Tuesday to mixed reviews by critics. The next season of Sesame Street premieres September 2011.
