There are always bumps along the road to making a film, and that’s especially true on independent projects where there is little cash to throw at a problem.
Of the films nominated for Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, casts and crews came across everything from an unexpected alligator visit (The Last Exorcism), to accidental pepper spraying (Sweetgrass), to a producer catching on fire (Get Low), to literally breaking a leg during combat in Afghanistan (Restrepo). There was also the dilemma of sharing a bathroom with Nicole Kidman during the filming of Rabbit Hole, which best male lead nominee Aaron Eckhart found difficult to reconcile.
