All eyes might be on Disney+’s The Mandalorian and untitled Cassian Andor series, but Lucasfilm has a brand-new Star Wars project debuting far earlier than either, with the animated Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures premiering online this week.
The new series of short cartoons will launch on both the new Star Wars Kids portal and a Star Wars Kids YouTube channel Friday, with six shorts being released simultaneously. More episodes will be released through December, according to Lucasfilm, with each installment combining sorties with “fun and educational add-ons designed to help older fans, parents, and other mentors to welcome the kids in their lives to explore the galaxy far, far away.” Further episodes will follow throughout 2019.
Talking to StarWars.com, Lucasfilm vp franchise content and strategy James Waugh said, “With Galaxy of Adventures, we wanted to craft something that allowed parents to help their kids take their first step into a much larger world whether they were ready to show their kids the films or wanted to find new ways to explore the content.”
The new series is said to be the opening salvo in a number of different initiatives under the Galaxy of Adventures brand, with Lucasfilm describing it as “the beginning of a year-long celebration of Star Wars storytelling,” leading up to the release of Star Wars Episode IX in December 2019.
