Starz CEO Chris Albrecht on Tuesday told a room full of Wall Street analysts about all of the Oscar parties he attended. It wasn’t a boast — it was to inform them that Hollywood has taken note of his premium cable channel’s focus on original programming.
Albrecht said the celebrities and studio executives who approached him were not only curious about future episodes of Black Sails, but also wanted to discuss possibly doing business with Starz.

“We’re on everybody’s radar,” Albrecht said at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in San Francisco. “We’re an interesting story. We’re a new story.”
Albrecht said that 2014 represents a milestone for Starz in that it marks the start of its presence as a premium channel with year-round original programming.
There are so many people who want to work with him that the channel has “more incoming than we have capacity for,” he said.
Original programming, as opposed to the studio-supplied movies that put Starz on the map, are what makes a brand “vibrant,” Albrecht said, and talent in Hollywood “see us investing in our brand.”
The CEO also stressed that he steers clear of “arms races” when it comes to bidding on content.
