In case you haven’t already seen all of the photos on Instagram and 10-second videos on Snapchat, Stella McCartney threw the coolest party to present her pre-fall 2016 collection at Hollywood’s famous Amoeba Music on Tuesday night. Beyond all the celebrities that attended (Gwyneth! Beck! Ringo!) and the playful pieces seen on the models, there was one other aspect that rounded out the eclectic evening: the classic rock ‘n’ roll tunes playing throughout the night.
As McCartney recently told The Hollywood Reporter, “I have visited L.A. many, many times and wanted to celebrate its music culture with our autumn collection. I always leave L.A. with a sense that there is so much happening in the creative arts now.”
And she indeed celebrated. The evening saw performances from alternative rock band Thenewno2, New Orleans’ Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Beach Boy Brian Wilson and a duet between Pink and Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green. To close out the music-centric night, Johnny Depp rocked out with Marilyn Manson on stage in front of a brightly lit pink sign that spelled out “Stella” in cursive.
In between all those mini concerts, classic rock tunes were spun throughout the night. From Nirvana’s “Lithium” to Eurythmics‘ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” there were no shortage of songs that got everyone either bopping their heads, swaying to the beat or singing along.
Of all the tunes that played, though, nothing felt quite as fitting as the David Bowie numbers (“Young Americans,” “Fashion” and “Modern Love,” included), especially during a night celebrating fashion, art and music. Because Bowie wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Check out some of the tunes played during McCartney’s soiree below and enjoy.
