CLEVELAND – Stephen Baldwin is throwing all of his support behind Donald Trump, his former Celebrity Apprentice boss, at the Republican National Convention.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on the floor of the Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday morning, the actor said Trump is the best person to take over the White House, even if he did fire Baldwin twice, he jokes.
“I’m here because I think he’s the right guy at this time, more so for anything else because he’s not a politician,” Baldwin tells THR, adding that he must be “glutton for punishment” as he was fired off Apprentice, which he appeared on in 2008 and 2013.
“This is a guy who’s going to say what he says and do what he does, and hopefully Americans will be in support of that,” the actor says.
Baldwin, who has appeared in numerous TV shows and films, including The Usual Suspects, says he believes Trump has a lot more supporters who will come out to vote, but don’t want to make their opinion known at this time.
As for the recent scandal over whether a portion of Melania Trump’s Monday speech plagiarized a portion of a speech given years ago by First Lady Michelle Obama, Baldwin says it is a non-issue in the grand scheme of things.
“I think it’s pretty silly to start to get into magnifying whether she intentionally did this or that,” he tells THR. “It really doesn’t matter. I think there are so many other important issues to talk about.”
